Patient with compromised kidney function cannot under go conventional angiography with routine dye. As dye is removed from body bye kidney, if kidneys are not functioning to full capacity as happens in long standing daibeties dye used can cause kidney failure. So the safest option to perform angiography is by using carbon dioxide gas as contrast agent which is easily dissolved in blood.
